THIS IS GROWING IN MY GARDEN!

This edible plant pops up in my yard every spring. Matter of fact, its November and it is still thriving in my garden. It's called by many names Poke Weed, Ink Berries, and when it is cooked for eating, it is called Poke Sallet. This is a Healing Medicinal Plant known by many Southerners. When the young shoots come up in spring it can be eaten after making sure it has been boiled and rinsed several times. If not cooked properly it is known to be poisoness. By summer it is bitter and not safe to be eaten; however, we do consume the the dark purple berries to cure many ailments. These beautiful berries grow on the plant the beginning of summer dark green and turn purplish black by late summer... They make great dye as they will stain your clothes...The Berries are also used to make poke berry pie. I have never eaten poke berry pie but I have eaten the leaves as poke sallet in the spring months and the berries late summer but no more then one. The poke Sallet makes my tongue tingle, but it taste delicious cooked with smoked turkey wings lol. The berries are bitter nothing sweet about them...It is said one berry a year wards away cancer...

The United States Declaration was written with Poke Weed isn't that crazy 😁 it stains just that well...It is said to be a deadly nightshade so yall please don't go out and sample this plant and later blame mama if something goes down...This is considered a two way plant that balances itself between life and death...

The Magical purposes of Poke Weed is said to be a herb that builds and promotes courage...It Expels evil and bad spirits...Breaks hexes and exorcises evil spirits and unwanted influences. Wow all that and I have been putting the dried berries I collect from my garden into my Dolls... What a magical plant...The next time you see it, stop by and admire it and thank, but be safe and follow my precautions...
